Coach’s Message 08.04.2020 CHSAA 2020-2021 Sports Schedule and Fall Baseball

CHSAA today released their calendar for 2020-2021 sports and activities. Head Coaches and ADs will be meeting with Jeffco and CHSAA for further direction on an implementation plan. Coaches, players, parents should realize that we will still be responsive to CV19 guidelines, restrictions and best practices as the threat or associated risk evolves. Your safety and well-being along with your family is of paramount concern and importance.

We are also meeting with 4A/5A baseball coaches who have agreed to work together on the hosting of a Fall H.S. baseball program (Non-CHSAA) This “league” will play games at H.S. fields on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting on or about 8/12 or 8/19. This competitive play includes 3 age levels: 18u, 16u and 15u. Other high school affiliated programs or coaches have held “try-outs” and are assessing their level of participation and administration. As Head H.S. Coaches, one of our goals is to limit player and program costs. Macro costs to be shared as of right now, are limited to just umpires and baseballs. We have baseballs and the plan is for players to wear their Cougar gear (Summer/Fall “club” tops). I am committed to having a competitive experience at the 18u level. I have received interest from EHS players and a few other players from area high schools. I will be meeting with our summer coaches to help gauge interest across 18u, 16u and 15u levels, then we will be reaching out to players directly. Fall 18u will be by invitation. I am also working on a JUCO showcase for Fall 18u at Otero and Trinidad State JC. They have extended an invitation to us to play in this showcase mid-late September and they have assured me that at least 12 college recruiters will be present.

There is a lot to digest and we have to remain flexible. It is about the student-athlete and this quick note is to advise you of current information, updates. If a player or parent has a question feel free to contact me.

The water leak on Cougar Field which prevented us from practicing on the field, we think has been addressed and our next 18u practice is scheduled for this Thursday 3:30PM. I will discuss the above then with players and try to answer any questions.

Thank you all.
