3.05.2020 Coach's Message
Players, parents and Cougar Baseball fans – our Spring season has started. This Saturday at Fredrick H.S. (FHS) are our scheduled scrimmages at 9:30AM and again at 12Noon. With our current field conditions we have not been able to practice on a baseball field. Our field will not be playable either for our scheduled HOME opener 3/12 against Roaring Fork H.S. (RFHS). This spring so far has been a nightmare.
After a lot of work and effort, our only option is to play our opener against RFHS on the Western Slope. The only playable and available field is Canyon View Field off 24th Road exit (I-70), Grand Junction. The only available time is 4PM start on Saturday 3/14. RFHS has agreed to play us at this neutral site. This is a Varsity only game and we will take a few swing JV players.
Please mark this on your calendar. I am working with both schools ADs, the RFHS Baseball Coach; the Executive ADs for Jeffco and District 51 (Grand Junction); the City of Grand Junction Facilities; and now the paper work to reserve the field and find the funds to pay for the field and find/pay umpires. Transportation over there remains an open action item. I am thinking about departing Friday after school, lodge, practice on a field Saturday AM (trying to get Colorado Mesa University) then play the game and return home. That way we could actually practice once on a baseball field before we play a game. This is important for players and coaches in that players need the on-field conditioning and practice. This hasn’t been easy trying to pull this together. I will ask for a school bus but we may have to carpool over and back.
We can discuss this more at tonight’s team, parent potluck EHS Cafeteria.
