3.04.2020 Coach's Message

I would like to thank all the student-athletes that tried out for EHS spring baseball. After 2 days of evaluations we have posted on the Player Board in the baseball locker-room/cages the V/JV player list and a second list of players who are referred to our C-Team for further evaluation and placement.

The V/JV list identifies players by name only. They will be placed on either the Varsity or JV rosters after our scrimmages this Saturday. Coaches would like to further evaluate and give players the opportunity to perform under simulated game (scrimmage) conditions before assigning them to the V or JV. We discussed with all the players today the upcoming scrimmage schedule at Fredrick H.S., pitching rotation and format.

Players referred to the C-Team have one more evaluation with C-Team coaches this Saturday at EHS. The C-Team is playing in the Jeffco L3 League, National Division which is very competitive playing quality freshman teams from area 5A schools.

Please remember, that as coaches we evaluate players and then sit down as a group and discuss player metrics. We recognize that these young athletes are growing and we want to work with them and give them every opportunity to develop. Every season we call-up to the next level players who have performed well, have a great attitude, have demonstrated their commitment and improved in those skill sets that we have identified for them as focus areas. We anticipate that this will happen again this year. Once a C-Team player is called-up to the JV he is de-rostered from the C-Team and per Jeffco rules, he cannot play for both the JV and our C-Team. I encourage players to work hard and improve and to please recognize that if they excel, they will be called-up. Baseball is a difficult game and we are fortunate to have 3 very good teams each of which are playing in competitive leagues. We also try to balance roster numbers and position depth charts so that players get to play as much as possible in their primary or secondary positions.

I know that everyone wants to be rostered to the Varsity but sub-varsity play be it either the JV or C-Team is very important and the future of our program. We will be meeting with players individually to discuss areas of needed improvement and we will help them improve.

I hope everyone is as excited about this season as I am. I am very impressed by the talent that we witnessed. Our program is strong and getting stronger. Again, thank you and see you all this Thursday at our team potluck dinner.
