Assistant Coach: Dennis Hensley in charge of Catching

Assistant Coach: Dale Hutchings in charge of Outfield

Assistant Coach: Steve Jones in charge of Pitching

Coach Jones will be entering his 4th season as the Varsity Pitching Coach for the Cougars and overall coordinator of the pitching program at Evergreen High School.  In his first 3 years in this role, the Cougars have gone 42-18 (.700 ) and recorded 8 shut-outs and 2 no-hitters in the spring high school season.

Upon assuming his responsibilities, Coach Jones implemented an off-season arm strength program, renewed a program-wide emphasis on core mechanics and developed a comprehensive pitching manual, all of which  have paid notable dividends.

In just his first season at the helm (2006-2007 spring season), the Cougar Varsity pitching staff reduced its ERA from over 13.00 to just under 10.00.

In his second year, the 2007-2008 spring season, the Cougar Varsity staff posted a 3.00 ERA-producing 5 shut-outs and a no-hitter by then Junior Parker Coffer.  That year, the Cougar staff logged 15 wins (the highest number of wins in the Terry Hensley era) and allowed only 67 runs in its 20 game season which, according to MAXPREPS baseball website, was #1 in the JeffCo 4A League and in the top 10 in all of Class 4A for the State of Colorado.

In the 2008-2009 spring season, the Cougar Varsity pitching staff  produced an equally impressive 3.50 ERA with 3 shut-outs and a no-hitter by then Junior Caleb Garbus.  In that season, according to MAXPREPS, the Cougar pitching staff allowed only 78 runs, which was again tops in the JeffCo 4A League and the 5th lowest in runs allowed (out of 64 teams reporting) in all of Class 4A Colorado.

Coach Jones has also served as Coach Hensley's pitching coach in the various summer baseball programs at EHS including a stint with the highly ranked 2006 Summer Connie Mack "Thunder Monkeys" which posted over 40 wins and produced two pitchers who have graduated to the collegiate pitching ranks, including JUCO All Star and former D1 starter, Derek Riley.  Riley was also selected in the 48th round of the 2008 Major League Draft by the Chicago Cubs organization.

In the summer of 2008, Coach Jones, Coach Hutchings and Coach Hensley teamed up to guide the Evergreen American Legion team to a 26-2 league record, including a Legion B District Championship and State Tournament appearance.

In addition to his efforts in the development of the Cougar Varsity pitching program, Coach Jones has been instrumental in the overall development of the JV and Freshman/Level III pitching staffs, which have produced numerous successful seasons and notable personal results, including a no-hitter in the summer of 2009 by then Freshman Seth Taylor.

Coach Jones has also been involved in the oversight and construction of  various improvements to the Cougar training facilities and baseball field including the complete reconstruction of the EHS game field mound as well as the Cougar and visitor bullpen mounds/areas and the outdoor batting cage.

Prior to assuming the role of Cougar Varsity Pitching Coach and program coordinator, Coach Jones assisted in the 2005-2006 Cougar Level III program.

Coach Jones is the parent of current Cougar second baseman Sam Jones.
